Nick Mares co-founded Kettle & Fire with his brother Justin in August 2015, after the two could not find a bone broth made from organic, 100 percent grass-fed bones that could ship without freezing. He was a 2016 Thiel Fellow and appeared on the 2020 Forbes 30 Under 30 list for food and drink. He is now a co-founder of Light Labs, an Austin-based, ISO 17025-accredited laboratory and software platform that tests food, supplements and cookware for heavy metals, glyphosate, PFAS, bisphenols, microplastics and pesticides, with clients including Made In, Momentous and Seed Health.
